The Italian volleyball teams keep surprising the world. This time, the women of the Italvolley Under 20 triumphed. They won the World Cup, beating Serbia 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-23). The rivals were close, but not close enough. Taleted and strong players like Gaia Guiducci, Emma Graziani, and Linda Nwakalor brought the title to the peninsula. Guided by coach Massimo Bellano, the young volleyball players shone a light onto the Italian school. Right before the Tokyo Olympics.
”We’ve been growing during this World cup,” said Bellano to the Italian Federation, “we had already showed we were a strong and compact team. And we showed it on the field. This is an amazing group that has been growing together.” Serbia wasn’t an easy rival and a match goes wrong quickly. Not this time.
“We can’t stop now,” said the coach of the Italvolley Under 20, “we need to keep working and make sure these players reach the seniores team.” Still, before focusing on the future, it’s time for some well-deserved celebration.
“I don’t have words to describe this feeling,” said the team’s captain Gaia Guiducci, “we’ve been dreaming about becoming world champions for so long, we always had hope. It’s a real dream come true.”
The triumph of the Italvolley Under 20 comes right after the positive result of the U16. In fact, the young women ended second in the European championship.
So, the Italain volley wins and it wins with its women. Now, it’s time for the Olympics.
